Name

What makes a name acceptable

  • Distinctive + descriptive element, then the legal element (Inc., Ltd., Corp.).
  • Quebec in mind? A Quebec corporation needs a French name; we’ll ask at step 3.
  • Words implying a government, bank or university need approval.
Named or numbered?

A name protects your brand in the registry; numbered is faster and you can register a trade name later.

What does “Similar name” mean?

A close name exists in that registry. It only matters if you operate in that province.

Is the name reserved now?

No. It’s reserved at filing; availability is rechecked automatically when you sign.
