Non-resident FAQ
Reviewed by David Roy, lawyer (Barreau du Québec). Not tax advice: see a tax adviser in your country.
Can I be the sole director without living in Canada?
Yes, in Quebec, Ontario and B.C., which have no residency rule. Federally, at least 25% of directors must be resident Canadians.
Do I need to travel to Canada?
Not to incorporate: everything is e-signed. Some banks require an in-person meeting to open the account.
Where will my company pay tax?
It depends on where it’s managed and controlled and on tax treaties. [to be confirmed by a tax adviser] — we refer you to a partner CPA.
What does the registered office cost after 12 months?
[amount] per year, cancellable once you have your own Canadian address.
